Last weekend I went out for a 50-mile ride with a couple buddies in sub-freezing temperatures. We left at 7:30 in the morning and we were literally skating on two thin wheels until about 9:00 when the sun started to melt things a bit.

I don't recommend going out in icy conditions, but we were getting so tired of trainer rides that we decided to take the chance.

There was one point in the ride where the rider in front of me had to brake, and when I touched my rear brakes my back wheel started to go sideways. I was doing a Lightning McQueen for a couple of seconds, but fortunately regained control and stayed up.

Even with a double layer of socks and my Pearl Izumi Amfib Shoe Covers, my feet went numb within a few minutes and stayed numb for most of the ride. Not fun, but all part of the addiction.

This weekend should be a LOT nicer though , with temperatures pushing 50 degrees. I'm really looking forward to a warmer ride this weekend!
